NSDS budgeting

ADAPT allows to assign budget and responsibilities for the completion of activities, as well as placing them in the GAMSO structure. ADAPT will allow you to visualize how much is allocated to each of the areas. Once the NSDS log frame is entered in the tool, select the activity you would like to work on.

1) Total activity cost

Double click on it and then click the edit button.

Select the top level GAMSO activity area, and then the sub-level category that it belongs to.

Next select the Department responsible for the completion of the activity and the person.

Next you can indicate the budget assigned to the completion of the activity. Enter the year, the organization and the type of budget. Once finished, click the "+" button.

If you need to erase, click the "-" button.

When finished, click save.

The total cost of an activity will be displayed once you save.

2) Event cost

Events also include a costing element, since they are occurrences outside the 'regular' flow of work. To create an event, once entered the activity view, click on "Add event".

Next, select the type of event that is needed to complete the activity (e.g. for producing a forecast, training on the new software is needed) and click save.

Then select "Add Sub-event". In this case, if there is more than one training needed (e.g. besides software, also training on new hardware may be needed) you should create one for each of them.

add sub event

Next enter the event name, dates, and location. You can select whether you wish to enter the total cost or to have a detailed budget.

If you wish to enter detailed costs of the occurrence, click on "+ Add cost".

Click on the "+" to create an expenditure item.

Add the type of item (e.g. trainer for the training). Then select the type of cost and the costing unit. You can also select the GSBPM activity and the budget category the cost will be imputed to (if it does not apply, leave blank). Next click "+ Add cost".

Finally, add the cost details. Only year and cost are needed, you can leave the rest of the fields in blank. Next, click save.

Now search for the cost item you created. First locate the expenditure type and then the cost item.

You can add more cost items. The total cost will update accordingly. When finished, click save.

3) Visualization

ADAPT will allow you to visualize the distribution of activities and budget. On the node control, double click on the Log-frame name. The first interactive pie-chart displays their distribution. When clicking on the slices, you will access the ones assigned to each person.

The following chart allows to view the costing assigned to each dimension of the NSDS (X axis). When clicking on the years on the reference area, you will be able to select what years are displayed.
